Frequently Asked Questions
What Reset is, how it works, and what it does with your information.
The basics
What exactly is Reset?
Reset is a weight-loss app that helps you decide what to eat and when to eat.
You answer a short set of questions about yourself. You can also take a 30-second wellness scan with your phone. Reset uses that starting information to build your plan, then gets more personal as it learns what you like, what you actually do, and how your progress changes over time.
What do I actually have to do?
At the start, you answer a handful of questions and can take a 30-second scan.
After that, Reset gives you meal guidance, an eating Window, and Ester, the AI guide inside the app. You use the plan, tell Reset when something works or doesn’t, and check in when useful.
You do not have to count calories or log every bite you eat.
What do I get from Reset?
Reset gives you:
Your starting Reset Type and an explanation of why it fits.
Meal recommendations built around what Reset knows about you.
A Reset Window that gives you a clear time to eat and a clear time to stop.
Ester, an AI guide that can explain recommendations and help when real life doesn’t match the plan.
Progress that shows what you’ve been doing and whether the plan appears to be working.
The important part is what happens over time: Reset should know more about you after a month than it did on your first day. That is the underlying product idea.
The scan and Reset Types
How can a face scan tell me what I should eat?
It can’t. Not by itself.
The scan is one input.
Your phone camera estimates a small set of wellness signals. Reset combines useful scan information with the answers you give us and, over time, what it learns from your meals, eating Window, feedback, weight trend, and other behavior.
The scan does not look at your face and magically prescribe a diet.
What does the face scan actually do?
The scan uses your phone’s front-facing camera to detect tiny changes in skin color caused by blood flow.
From that, the scan can estimate signals such as heart rate, heart-rate variability, breathing rate, and stress- or recovery-related wellness signals.
They are estimates, not medical measurements. Lighting, movement, your phone camera, skin tone, recent exercise, caffeine, illness, and other factors can affect a reading.
Does the scan determine my Reset Type?
No.
Your Type starts with what you tell us. Scan estimates can add useful context when they support what you’ve described.
A single scan does not prove your Type.
That distinction is important. Reset’s own product rules say the scan should support an interpretation when there is evidence for it, not manufacture one.
So what is a Reset Type?
A Reset Type is a starting framework Reset uses to organize the patterns you describe.
There are five: Burner, Rebounder, Restorer, Chameleon, and Explorer.
They are Reset’s own product categories. They are not medical diagnoses, lab results, or five medically recognized kinds of metabolism.
Your Type gives Reset somewhere useful to start. What Reset learns about you afterward should make the plan increasingly personal.
Why have Types at all?
Because starting from nothing isn’t very helpful.
Your Type gives Reset an initial idea of what may matter most for you and what it should test first.
Then real information should take over: what you eat, what you reject, what is hard to follow, what your schedule looks like, how your weight changes, and what happens when Reset changes the plan.
Type is the starting read. It is not the final answer. That is also how the current Deep Read is designed.
Is this just a personality quiz with a face scan attached?
It shouldn’t be.
The value of Reset is not that it gives you a label.
The value is whether the app actually uses what it knows to make better decisions for you afterward.
If Reset tells you that evenings are difficult, your meals and eating Window should reflect that. If you keep rejecting the same foods, future recommendations should change. If a plan isn’t producing the expected result, Reset should learn from that too.
If the Type never changes what the product does, the Type has not earned its place. That is an explicit rule in the current Reset product design.
What science does Reset use?
Reset starts with fairly ordinary nutrition principles.
Meals should give you enough protein and fiber, rely heavily on whole or minimally processed foods, avoid turning weight loss into extreme restriction, and be realistic enough that you can actually keep eating them.
Reset then uses information about you to decide which meals and plan structure make the most sense.
We do not claim that the five Reset Types are clinically validated diagnoses. We do not claim that a phone scan can tell us exactly how your metabolism works. And we do not use a scan to diagnose a medical condition.
Using Reset day to day
Do I have to count calories?
No.
Reset does not ask you to hit a daily calorie number or log every food you eat.
You should be able to spend your attention on eating, not on doing math about eating.
Is Reset a fasting app?
No.
Meals answer what should I eat?
Your Reset Window answers when should I eat?
The eating Window is one part of the plan. Reset is not built around trying to make you fast for as long as possible.
What if I don’t like the food Reset recommends?
Don’t eat it.
Choose something else and tell Reset what didn’t fit.
Maybe you hate salmon. Maybe dinner takes too long to cook. Maybe nobody else in your house will eat it.
Those are useful facts. Reset should use them the next time it makes a recommendation.
How does Reset learn about me?
Reset can learn from things you tell it directly, corrections you make, repeated patterns, choices you make inside the app, and what happens while you follow a plan.
It should not turn every sentence you say or every one-off event into a permanent fact about you.
The rule is simple: something is worth remembering when it should change what Reset does later.
Is Ester a real person?
No.
Ester is AI.
She can explain your plan, answer questions, help with food decisions, and use relevant information Reset knows about you.
She is not a doctor, therapist, dietitian, or human coach. AI can also get things wrong. Ester should never be used to make a medical decision or handle an emergency. Reset’s Terms say this explicitly.
Couldn’t I just ask ChatGPT what to eat?
Yes.
If all you want is general meal ideas or a nutrition question answered, a general-purpose AI can already do that.
Reset has to earn its subscription by doing something more useful: keeping track of your plan, meals, eating Window, preferences, progress, previous decisions, and what has or has not worked for you, then using those things together the next time it makes a recommendation.
If Reset isn’t doing that, then it isn’t personal enough.
Results
Does Reset guarantee that I’ll lose weight?
No.
We cannot promise that a particular person will lose a particular amount of weight.
Weight changes for many reasons, and people respond differently.
Reset’s job is to give you a plan you can realistically follow, watch what happens over time, and change the plan when the evidence says something needs to change.
How quickly should I expect to lose weight?
We don’t promise a number or a date.
Weight can move unevenly even when someone is making progress.
Reset is designed to look at the trend over time instead of treating one weigh-in as a verdict.
What happens if the plan isn’t working?
The answer should not automatically be “try harder.”
Reset can look at whether you were able to follow the plan, how the plan fit your life, and what happened to your weight trend.
If you were following the plan and the result still wasn’t there, that is information about the plan, not a reason to blame you. That is the principle behind the current Reset Score system.
Health and medical
Can I use Reset if I’m taking a GLP-1 medication?
You can tell Reset that you are taking a GLP-1 so that its food guidance can account for that context.
Reset does not prescribe GLP-1s, change your dose, or tell you when to start or stop medication.
Those decisions belong with the healthcare professional treating you.
What if I have a medical condition?
Reset is a consumer wellness app. It is not medical care.
If you are pregnant or nursing, have a medical condition, take medication that affects appetite or blood sugar, or have a current or past eating disorder, talk with a qualified healthcare professional before making significant changes to how you eat.
Reset is for adults 18 and older.
Privacy and your data
Do I have to use the face scan?
No.
The scan is optional.
If you skip it, some scan-based personalization may not be available, but you do not have to give Reset access to your camera just to have an account.
Do you store a photo or video of my face?
No.
The scan is processed on your phone.
Reset does not receive or store your face photos, raw face video, facial geometry, or a facial-recognition template. Reset receives only the numerical wellness estimates produced by the scan.
Do you sell my health data?
No.
Reset’s current privacy policy says it does not sell personal information and does not use your health, scan, meal, check-in, chat, or body-signal data to target advertising to you.
Reset does use outside technology providers to run parts of the service, including AI infrastructure. Those uses are described in the Privacy Policy.
Can I delete my information?
Yes.
You can delete your Reset account from the app or contact Reset for help. The privacy policy also gives users rights to access, correct, or delete covered personal information where applicable.
Subscription
How does the subscription work?
Reset Pro is an auto-renewing subscription.
The price and billing period are shown before you pay. Monthly and annual options are available. You can cancel at any time, and you keep access through the end of the period you already paid for.
Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. On iPhone, you cancel through Apple Subscriptions. On Android, you cancel through Google Play.
If you joined Reset before the current app and are billed directly rather than through the App Store or Google Play, contact hello@reset.com and we’ll take care of it.
Will I be charged before I know what my Type is?
The intended Reset flow lets you complete onboarding, get your starting Type, and see the explanation behind it before the paid plan begins.
The subscription unlocks the ongoing Reset experience: the personalized plan, Meals, Window, Ester, Progress, and the learning that happens after Day 1.
